Libya located in North Africa is a favored tourist attraction. This area offers spectacular historical sites, wonderful traditional markets and a host of tourist attractions from beautiful scenery, outstanding natural landscapes and cultural museums.
There are a few things you should know when visiting Libya, here are a few to help you plan your trip and ensure you are prepared for this marvelous wonderland.
When buying your Libya air ticket, ensure you have at least seven months available on your passport (according to the old laws). On arrival, remember your passport must be registered at the nearest police station within one week of arrival. If you are traveling with a tour operator, they will arrange this for you.
Know What is Allowed
When arriving in Libya be aware of items you are not allowed to bring into the country, these include any products manufactured in Israel. Also don’t bring in any alcoholic beverages, pork, preserved meats or any foods. Rather leave those at home to avoid unwelcome delays at customs.
Using a tour operator is the best way to experience Libya. With a tour operator you can see more of the sights in the shortest period of time, your transport is included and you can get the best insight into the country from the knowledgeable tour guides.
Bear in mind that most of Libya works with cash rather than card and that currency exchange is not available everywhere. Some of the larger hotels and city banks do offer currency exchange but they do not exchange traveler checks. It’s worthwhile converting all your currency at the airport before starting your holiday to avoid any problems further on.
Be Prepared
Women should dress modestly at all times, respect the religious beliefs in Libya where the majority of the country is Islamic. Keep your bathing suit for at the beach resorts or pools. During Ramadan do not eat, drink or smoke in public.
The last tip is when passing a military border point, do not be tempted to take photographs. Keep your camera out of the way and ready to take photos of some of the more interesting sights such as the many ruins and UNESCO heritage sites.
