Libya is a spectacular North African country to visit but many families don’t realize that Libya can offer great family experiences, an enjoyable holiday for all ages.

For adults there are historical sites, cultural experiences and natural beauty that will take your breath away, but you need to find things to keep the children occupied and ensure they get to enjoy their Libyan experience as much as you do.

Museum of Libya
The Museum of Libya can be a delight for the whole family offering parents a chance to soak up the history and culture while the children are amazed by the interactive displays, especially the turning statues. This can be a great afternoon experience for the whole family, enabling everyone to learn a little more on what Libya is all about.

Tripoli Zoo
Everyone loves a day at the zoo and the Tripoli Zoo offers this for children of all ages. Offering a host of animal species to see and learn about, the zoo is a great way to spend a day in Libya.

Janzar Tourist Village
Whether you want to relax on the golden beach or ride a jet bike into the sunset, you can do it all at this popular tourist village. From scuba diving to swimming and building sandcastles to enjoying some family time together, Janzar Tourist Village has it all.

Al Fursia Park
This ex race track is now a popular family area with both locals and holiday makers. They have a huge playground, place to sit and relax and maybe enjoy a family picnic or go cycling, walking or play some ball games. With such great weather in Libya, spending time outdoors with the family is a great way to spend your vacation time.

Of course then there are the magnificent stretches of golden beach which are a delight for all children (and adults alike). You can spend your days soaking up the sun and letting the children make the most of the warm climate and sparkling blue water.

Sabratha is one of the most visited historical sites in Libya. This city dates back to 500BC and is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Back in 500BC the Phoenicians used Sabratha as a sea port and important trading post, the Romans also used the area for its harbor area. The city was damaged in the fourth century earthquake and was rebuilt to become one of the most popular tourist attractions in Libya today.

The Theater is probably the most popular site in Sabratha. This theater dates back to around 175AD and has a large forty three meter stage. It is believed the theater could accommodate up to 5,000 spectators.

There are also the baths, temples and the spectacular amphitheater which housed up to 10,000 spectators who would arrive to watch the duals that took place.

The Museum is another highlight and is brimming with all the items and artefacts which have been excavated from this archaeological site including a number of mosaics, statues and paintings.

Weather
If you’re planning a day in Sabratha it’s worthwhile knowing what to bring with you. Take plenty of bottled water, sun scream and a sun hat. From June to September there is no rain and because Libya enjoys a warm climate the temperatures can soar to high temperatures where the sun shines for up to twelve hours a day.

Many holiday makers choose to visit Libya in spring or autumn when the temperatures are slightly cooler, but still warm enough to enjoy your Libyan experience.

April and May and October and November all enjoy warm weather with some rainfall. The sun shines for up to ten hours a day during these months which makes it a pleasant experience when walking around Sabratha and soaking up the history of this beautiful city’s past. Enjoy the views, visit the ruins and step back in time.
