Yesterday afternoon, I was shocked to see two kites flying in the wind over in the Tripoli harbor. As I looked closely, it was 2 guys hitting the ocean with their kitesurfing gear. The wind seemed to be blowing perfectly and sure enough…off they went across the bay.

As they continued the fly across the dark blue ocean the most amazing double rainbow appeared. What a place to kite-surf! Who would have thought about Libya?

Do you ever get tired of hearing all the negative media? Yesterday I read an article about the instability of Libya and the latest gun fight! The media loves to pick out the small negative things to attract readers… Today, let’s look at the positive side:

Last evening I took my entire family out for a drive in downtown Tripoli. People were out and about…living life as normal. Tons of people were shopping and enjoying their weekend. Others were sitting in Cafes and restaurants…

As we drove around, we can see signs of fixing up the city. New posters promoting reconciliation and gun control, walls painted with new “Free Libya” graffiti, and officers on duty maintaining order. I think it is time to give Libya credit for all they have accomplished over the past few months.

Is Libya totally safe? What a great question! Is anywhere in the world totally safe? Are college campuses safe? One thing I have learned, if we listen to the media, we will be paralyzed with fear.

Many people are wondering how they can obtain a visa to Libya? What is the current visa situation? Is it possible to get a tourist visa?

The other day, I was in the Ministry of Tourism in Tripoli and I asked them about the tourist visa. They explained that there are no tourist visas at the moment, but hopefully in the next few months they would begin to offer them again. He continued to explain that they had not yet appointed a Minister of Tourism, so things would take time.
