Marcus Aurelius Arch

Perhaps one of the key historic sites of Tripoli, Libya, The Marcus Aurelius Arch is a must visit. Built around 163 AD, the arch was constructed in honor of the great Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius.

As you approach the Marcus Aurelius Arch from the seaside, you may at first not be impressed by this monument. However, as you begin to walk down into the garden area and around the Arch, you will be amazed that this is a piece of history, two thousand years old. For those on a tour of Libya, you will spend a short time at the Arch before heading to the National Museum. (Read More…)

Is Libya Family Friendly?

Family friendly – you have got to be crazy? Actually, I have recently moved to Libya with two of my kids (9 yrs and 7 yrs) and they are having a great time. Yes…the war just ended and some of the smaller towns are still a bit unstable…however, Tripoli seems to be returning to life as normal. Yesterday, we spent some time at a lovely park and there were tons of families out enjoying the friday afternoon.

There are a number of family parks around the city! My kids especially like the one with the trampolines…1 Libyan Dinar will get you 10 minutes of bouncing fun. Kids of all ages were enjoying this park. Besides playground equipment and trampolines, there are street vendors selling tea & coffee, snacks for kids, and little toys. Parents gather on the park benches while their kids enjoy the outdoors.

Libya has so much to offer…we are just waiting for the perfect timing! Traveling to Libya will one day be a highlight of any world traveler…even with your children. From the Sahara desert to the rich history, a Libya tour will be something you will never forget.

Libya Hospitality – Warm & Friendly

Since our arrival in Libya 10 days ago, our family has been welcomed warmly by our Libyan hosts. From the first day until now, we have been helped by many, greeted by tons, and welcomed as Americans living in Tripoli. A friend told me yesterday, “You are the first Americans I have ever met!”

We have also had the privilege of visiting their homes and eating some amazing meals with our family friends. Sitting together on the floor, we have enjoyed wonderful Libyan cuisine; from Cous Cous to Rice and meat! It has all be amazing!

Libyans are looking forward to the future with anticipation. They are excited about the possibility of other foreign visitors coming to Libya and learning about their fabulous country. 42 years of oppression and now freedom! Libya is ready to get to know the rest of the world and have them know Libya.

The time is coming to travel to Libya! Come and experience the Libya hospitality.

Cleaning Up Libya

As we drove along the beach road on the edge of Tripoli, we noticed something wonderful happening…tons of workers with paintbrushes in hand working hard to clean up the city. With graffiti about Gaddafi all over the town, an initiative has been started to clean up the city. Besides painting, crews were picking up the trash that has covered the area. Well done Libya!

As I talk to people on the street, there is a bright hope for Libya. Looking forward to a new Libya, young adults are hopeful that Libya will change. When asked, everyone is excited about possible tourists coming to their land to experience the rich history and culture that they have to offer. From the Roman ruins to the amazing Sahara, Libya will become an emerging destination for world travelers.
